Itinerary

DAY 1

🕕 Meeting at 06:00 in Bucharest in the Piața Victoriei car park (📍 Parcare Piata Victoriei on Google Maps), where the Holiday Coach and the accompanying guide will be waiting for you. ⛪ Strehaia Monastery Built by Mihai Viteazul and rebuilt in 1645 on the orders of Matei Basarab, Strehaia Monastery is a fortified edifice that "witnessed" impressive battles in its time. Built of stone, the church of this monastery in the Mehedinți town of Strehaia has a peculiarity. Unlike all other Orthodox places of worship, which have their altar facing east, it is the only monastery in the country with the altar oriented to the south. Legend, also recounted by Nicolae Iorga, says that Mihai Viteazul, who was born in Strehaia, built a first church, erecting it at night and, orienting himself wrongly, assembled the church with the altar facing south. ⛴️ Boat trip on the Danube An unforgettable experience! You will cruise among impressive landscapes, crossing Cazanele Mici and Cazanele Mari, where the Danube narrows and is flanked by high rock walls. Along the way, we will admire the Statue of Decebal, the largest stone sculpture in Europe, a tribute to the great Dacian king. The trip continues with a view of Mraconia Monastery, situated on the bank of the Danube, and exploration of Grota Veterani, a cave with a fascinating history, used in the past as a defence point. The last stop is Ponicova Cave, the largest cave in the Danube Gorge, accessible both from the water and from land, offering a captivating adventure in the heart of nature. 🛏️ Accommodation at Hotel Caraș 3*, Oravița / similar 🍽️ Dinner

DAY 2

🍽️ Breakfast 🚂 Semeringul Bănățean It is one of the most spectacular and oldest mountain railways in Romania, renowned for its impressive route and for the picturesque landscapes of the Anina Mountains. The railway line connects the towns of Oravița and Anina and was inaugurated on 15 December 1863, being the first mountain railway on the current territory of Romania. The route has a length of approximately 33.4 km and includes 14 tunnels and 10 viaducts. Due to its similarity to the famous Semmering railway in Austria, it received the name "Semeringul Bănățean". In 2021, Semeringul Bănățean was designated "Destination of the Year", becoming one of the important tourist attractions of Banat. 🏛️ Anina Cultural Museum Centre It is a place where we will discover the history of the town of Anina and the story of the community that formed around mining.⛏️Here we will be able to see objects and collections related to mining activity, as well as to the daily life of the locals. Among the exhibits are minerals and rocks, traditional objects, documents and a model of the Oravița–Anina railway, one of the most important symbols of the town. 🏛️ Vila Ferdinand in Anina It is one of the important historic buildings in the town of Anina, being known for its connection with the Royal Family of Romania. The villa has remained in the memory of the place due to the fact that, in 1926, it hosted King Ferdinand I and Queen Marie, during their visit to the mining area. Today, Vila Ferdinand is a landmark of the historic heritage of the town of Anina and recalls the period when the area was an important mining centre. 🏭 Anina Mining Museum It is an attraction dedicated to the history of mining in Anina. The museum keeps alive the story of a community developed around coal extraction and presents the importance that mining has had for the town and for the entire area of Banat Montan. ⚙️We will be able to see old mining installations and equipment, documents and objects that illustrate the work of the miners and the evolution of coal extraction. 🛏️ Accommodation at Hotel Caraș 3*, Oravița / similar 🍽️ Dinner

DAY 3

🍽️ Breakfast 🌊 Bigăr Waterfall It was one of the most spectacular and well-known waterfalls in Romania, renowned for its unique shape. The water of the Bigăr spring flowed over a moss-covered rock, forming a "curtain" of delicate droplets falling into the Miniș river. The waterfall is part of Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park, a place of remarkable natural beauty. Although the waterfall collapsed in 2021 due to natural causes, it remains a symbol of natural beauty in Romania and continues to attract visitors to the area for its picturesque landscapes. ⚙️ Water mills at Rudăria Rudăria, also known as Eftimie Murgu, in Caraș-Severin county, is a true jewel of peasant architecture. The water mills, powered by the force of the Rudăria river, have been used by locals since ancient times. The mills are arranged like strings of beads along the course of the water, over a length of three kilometres in the village and beyond it. The furthest from the locality, and perhaps the most spectacular, is the Tunnel Mill, because the water comes from under the rocks. 🚌 Arrival in Bucharest in the evening, depending on traffic conditions.
