Itinerary

DAY 1

⛪ Strehaia Monastery Built by Mihai Viteazul and rebuilt in 1645 by order of Matei Basarab, Strehaia Monastery is a fortified edifice which "witnessed" impressive battles in its time. Built of stone, the church of this monastery in the Mehedinti town of Strehaia presents a curiosity. Unlike all other Orthodox places of worship, which have their altar to the east, it is the only monastery in the country with the altar oriented to the south. Legend, also recounted by Nicolae Iorga, says that Mihai Viteazul, who was born in Strehaia, built a first church, raising it at night and, having oriented himself incorrectly, assembled the church with the altar to the south. Central Park in Turnu Severin The "Tudor Vladimirescu" Park, known as the "Central" Park of Drobeta Turnu Severin, was laid out in 1900. It is located between the Administrative Palace and the Teodor Costescu Palace of Culture. It is bordered by the streets: Traian to the north, Bd. Carol to the south, Teodor Costescu to the east and I.G. Bibicescu to the west. The Roman Castrum and Apollodorus of Damascus's Bridge – vestiges recalling the impressive construction raised by the Romans across the Danube in Trajan's time. The Museum of the Iron Gates Region – includes collections of archaeology, local history and sections dedicated to nature and the hydroelectric plant. The Central Park and kinetic fountain – a promenade area, where one of the best-known kinetic artesian fountains in Romania is located. The Medieval Fortress of Severinului – a reconstructed fortification, important in the Middle Ages as a strategic point on the Danube. 🛏️ Accommodation 3* Hotel in Baile Herculane 🍽️ Dinner

DAY 2

🍽️ Breakfast Those who wish can remain on the hotel premises where they can relax at the swimming pool or at the spa centre, or if not, we will take a walk with the guide through the centre of the resort where the buildings are loaded with history with a special beauty and are built in baroque style of Austrian character. Situated in Piata Hercules, Pavilion 3 was erected in 1824 and hosted Emperor Franz I and his wife, Empress Carolina. In the area of the Historic Centre, the statue of Hercules, son of Zeus and a mortal, Queen Alcmene, is also located. After the statue of Hercules we can see the Stone Bridge, a historic monument built in 1865, and the Austrian Imperial Baths having a combination of Roman and baroque influences. 🛏️ Accommodation 3* Hotel Baile Herculane 🍽️ Dinner

DAY 3

🍽️ Breakfast The Iron Gates I Hydroelectric Plant Museum Presents pieces of history and ethnography from the Iron Gates area, exhibits related to the construction of the hydroelectric plant on the Danube. In the museum are displayed folk costumes from the Iron Gates area and a water mill. The visit to the museum concludes with descending to the Turbine Hall, where the 6 Kaplan turbines can be admired. On the way home we will stop at the Cambera restaurant to have lunch and we will continue with the last stop at the Christmas Market in Craiova with a theme inspired by the story of the Nutcracker. We will also visit numerous wooden stalls, from which we can buy traditional products, gifts, Christmas decorations, but also culinary preparations specific to the season, such as mulled wine, cozonac and other treats. In addition, various activities will be organised for children, including rides on the little train, carousels and creative workshops.❄️⛄ 🚌Arrival in Bucharest during the evening depending on traffic conditions.

🚌 Boarding

1.Coach seats are allocated starting from the 4th row, in the order the deposit is paid. For rows 1-3 an extra fee may be paid (specific to each trip).

📍 During the trip

2.The order of the visits may be changed by the guide without affecting the structure of the programme. Sights may be replaced with similar ones for objective reasons (roads, weather, etc).
3.Entrance fees for tourist sights and optional excursions are paid in local currency to the guide and may vary by season.
4.Guiding services in museums or cities may only be provided by local guides, paid on the spot.
5.For lost/stolen luggage, documents or personal belongings, the agency is not liable. Complaints are filed personally with the competent authorities.

6.The single supplement is paid at least 7 days before departure if the agency cannot find a room partner.
7.Children get a discount only when sharing a room with 2 adults.
