Itinerary

DAY 1

🕕 Meeting at 06:00 in Bucharest in the Piata Victoriei car park (📍 Parcare Piata Victoriei on Google Maps), where the Coach and accompanying guide will be waiting for you. ⛪ Strehaia Monastery Built by Mihai Viteazul and rebuilt in 1645 on the orders of Matei Basarab, Strehaia Monastery is a fortified building that has 'seen' impressive battles in its time. Built of stone, the church of this monastery in the Mehedinti town of Strehaia has a peculiarity. Unlike all other Orthodox places of worship, which have their altar to the east, it is the only monastery in the country with the altar facing south. According to legend, also recounted by Nicolae Iorga, Mihai Viteazul, who was born in Strehaia, built a first church, erecting it at night and, mistaking the orientation, assembled the church with the altar facing south. ⛴️ Boat trip on the Danube An unforgettable experience! You will sail among impressive landscapes, crossing the Small Gorges and the Large Gorges, where the Danube narrows and is flanked by high rock walls. Along the way, we will admire the Statue of Decebalus, the largest stone sculpture in Europe, a tribute to the great Dacian king. The trip continues with a view of Mraconia Monastery, situated on the banks of the Danube, and exploration of Veterani Grotto, a cave with a fascinating history, used in the past as a defence point. The last stop is Ponicova Cave, the largest cave in the Danube Gorge, accessible both by water and on land, offering a captivating adventure in the heart of nature. 🛏️ Accommodation at Hotel Caras 3*, Oravita / similar 🍽️ Dinner

DAY 2

🍽️ Breakfast 🚂 Banat Semmering It is one of the most spectacular and oldest mountain railways in Romania, renowned for its impressive route and the picturesque landscapes of the Anina Mountains. The railway line connects the towns of Oravita and Anina and was inaugurated on 15 December 1863, being the first mountain railway on the present territory of Romania. The route is approximately 33.4 km long and includes 14 tunnels and 10 viaducts. Due to its similarity to the famous Semmering railway in Austria, it was given the name 'Banat Semmering'. In 2021, Banat Semmering was named 'Destination of the Year', becoming one of the important tourist attractions of Banat. 🏛️ Anina Cultural Museum Centre It is a place where we will discover the history of the town of Anina and the story of the community that formed around mining.⛏️Here we can see objects and collections related to mining activity, as well as the daily life of the locals. Among the exhibits are minerals and rocks, traditional objects, documents and a model of the Oravita–Anina railway, one of the most important symbols of the town. 🏛️ Ferdinand Villa in Anina It is one of the important historic buildings in the town of Anina, known for its connection with the Royal Family of Romania. The villa remained in the memory of the place due to the fact that in 1926 it hosted King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria during their visit to the mining area. Today, Ferdinand Villa is a landmark of the historic heritage of the town of Anina and recalls the period when the area was an important mining centre. 🏭 Anina Mining Museum It is an objective dedicated to the history of mining in Anina. The museum keeps alive the story of a community developed around coal mining and presents the importance that mining had for the town and for the entire Banat Mountain area. ⚙️We can see old mining installations and equipment, documents and objects that illustrate the work of miners and the evolution of coal mining. 🛏️ Accommodation at Hotel Caras 3*, Oravita / similar 🍽️ Dinner

DAY 3

🍽️ Breakfast 🌊 Bigar Waterfall It was one of the most spectacular and well-known waterfalls in Romania, renowned for its unique shape. The water of the Bigar spring flowed over a moss-covered rock, forming a 'curtain' of delicate drops falling into the Minis river. The waterfall is part of Cheile Nerei-Beusnita National Park, a place of remarkable natural beauty. Although the waterfall collapsed in 2021 due to natural causes, it remains a symbol of natural beauty in Romania and continues to attract visitors to the area for its picturesque landscapes. ⚙️ Water mills at Rudaria Rudaria, also known as Eftimie Murgu, in Caras-Severin county, is a true jewel of peasant architecture. The water mills, powered by the force of the Rudaria river, have been used by locals since ancient times. The mills are arranged like strings of beads along the watercourse, over a length of three kilometres in and outside the village. The furthest from the village, and perhaps the most spectacular, is the Tunnel Mill, because the water comes from under the rocks. 🚌 Arrival in Bucharest in the evening, depending on traffic conditions.
