3-day tour to Băile Herculane: relaxation and thermal pool

If you dream of a weekend of complete relaxation, where thermal water, history and spectacular landscapes blend harmoniously, our 3-day tour to Băile Herculane is the perfect choice. This programme offers you comfortable accommodation with access to a thermal pool, visits to impressive cultural sites such as Strehaia Monastery and the Iron Gates Hydroelectric Power Station, as well as free time to enjoy the resort that has charmed generations. We depart from Bucharest and accompany you with a guide throughout the trip, so that you can truly relax. Whether you are looking for a break from routine or wish to discover the beauty of southern Romania, this tour awaits you with open arms.

What we visit

Our 3-day programme to Băile Herculane is designed to combine relaxation with the discovery of places steeped in history. On the first day, after departing Bucharest from Piața Victoriei, we stop at Strehaia Monastery, a fortified edifice built by Mihai Viteazul and rebuilt in 1645 at the order of Matei Basarab. Did you know that this is the only monastery in the country with the altar facing south? Legend has it that Mihai Viteazul built it at night, orienting himself incorrectly. Once we arrive at Băile Herculane, you check in at Hotel Golden Spirit 3* or similar, where the thermal water pool awaits you, along with massage and sauna services for an additional charge.

On the second day you have the freedom to choose: either stay at the hotel to relax by the pool and spa centre, or join us on a guided walk through the resort centre. Here you will admire the buildings constructed in Austrian baroque style, Pavilion 3 — built in 1824 and which hosted Emperor Franz I and his wife, Empress Caroline —, the statue of Hercules, the Stone Bridge (built in 1865 and which is the first bridge in Europe built on a curve) and the Austrian Imperial Baths, with Roman and baroque influences. Did you know that the foundations of the resort were laid in 102 AD by Emperor Trajan, making Băile Herculane one of the oldest spa resorts in Europe?

On the third day we explore the Iron Gates area. We visit the Iron Gates I Hydroelectric Power Station Museum, where you will discover pieces of history and ethnography, folk costumes, and you will descend into the Turbine Hall to admire the 6 Kaplan turbines. Did you know that the Iron Gates I Hydroelectric Power Station is the largest in Romania and one of the largest hydrotechnical constructions in Europe? Inaugurated in 1972, it remains a symbol of Romanian engineering. Then we walk through the Central Park in Turnu Severin, admire the vestiges of the Roman Fort and the Bridge of Apollodorus of Damascus, visit the Iron Gates Region Museum and the Medieval Fortress of Severin. The return to Bucharest takes place during the evening.
