What we visit on this Northern Italy tour

Our tour begins with a stop in Budapest, where we will explore the old centre of the city on a walking tour. We will visit Matthias Church, the Fisherman's Bastion and Heroes' Square, and in the evening you have the option of a Danube cruise, from where you will admire the beautiful Parliament building. Did you know that Matthias Church has its name from the fact that the wedding of the King of Hungary, Matthias Corvinus (1458-1490), took place here? Moreover, during Turkish rule in the sixteenth century, the church served as the main mosque. The Fisherman's Bastion has an equally interesting story: the seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Pannonian Plain in 896, and the name comes from the fishermen's guild that was responsible for defending this portion of the city walls in the Middle Ages.

In Venice, we will explore this magical city, famous for its canals, splendid architecture and romantic atmosphere. We visit iconic attractions such as St Mark's Square and St Mark's Basilica, and in the afternoon you enjoy a gondola ride. Did you know that St Mark's Basilica came to be nicknamed Basilica d'Oro ('Basilica of Gold') thanks to the mosaics, marble, statues, columns and valuable objects that Venetian merchants brought from the East? During the Fourth Crusade, the Venetians appropriated in 1204 four gilded horses from an ancient Roman quadriga from the Hippodrome in Constantinople, which were posted in 1254 above the main portal.

In Verona, we will discover the 'City of Romeo and Juliet', where we will explore the medieval streets and visit Juliet's House and the Arena di Verona. You will have free time to savour the romantic atmosphere and impressive architecture of the city, including a walk along the banks of the River Adige. Did you know that the medieval building of Juliet's House belonged to the Capello family, and many believe that this name and their story inspired the Capulet family in Shakespeare's work? Also, a massive restoration to add the windows, Gothic gates and balcony was carried out in the 1930s.

In Milan, the 'Capital of Fashion and Design', we will visit the Milan Cathedral and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and in the afternoon we will explore the elegant streets and luxury shops of the city.
