9-Day China Tour: Beijing & Shanghai – Complete Guide

China is a destination that blends millennia-old history with spectacular modernity, and a 9-day tour in Beijing and Shanghai offers you the opportunity to discover the essence of this fascinating civilisation. This article is designed for you if you dream of seeing the Great Wall of China, stepping into the Forbidden City and exploring traditional Chinese temples and gardens. In what follows, you will find out what we visit, what the price includes, who this tour is suitable for and how to make your reservation for departures in 2026.

What we visit

Our 9-day tour of China covers the most important tourist attractions in Beijing and Shanghai, offering you a complete experience of Chinese culture.

  • Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City – We begin with Tiananmen Square, an urban square in the centre of Beijing that hosts the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Did you know Tiananmen Square is in the top ten largest squares in the world, with an area of 440,500 m2? Also, it was here that Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China on 1 October 1949. We continue to the Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial palace that served as the residence of emperors from the Ming dynasty until the end of the Qing dynasty (1420–1912). Did you know this complex built between 1406 and 1420 consists of 980 buildings and covers 72 ha? Even more impressive, the Forbidden City is today the most visited museum in the world, with over 14 million tourists annually.
  • The Great Wall of China at Juyong Pass – We visit one of the most impressive constructions of mankind. Did you know the Great Wall is considered by volume the largest construction on the globe, with a length of 21,196.18 km? The section at Juyongguan represents a historical and tourist gem located just 60 kilometres from Beijing. We also visit the Beijing Olympic Park for memorable photographs.
  • Jade Buddha Temple and Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai – We travel by high-speed train to Shanghai, where we explore the Jade Buddha Temple, a Buddhist temple built in 1882 with two Buddha statues brought from Myanmar. Did you know the meditating Buddha statue is 1.9 metres high and features exquisite details in agate and emerald? We also visit the Yuyuan Garden, an extensive Chinese garden with a history of over 400 years. Did you know the garden dates from the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and was built especially by Pan Yunduan for his parents? The name 'Yu' means in Chinese 'pleasant and satisfying'.
  • The Bund, Oriental Pearl Tower and the water town of Zhujiajiao – We explore the Bund area, a historic protected waterfront district in the centre of Shanghai, and see from outside the Oriental Pearl tower, a telecommunications tower with a height of 468 m with antenna. We also visit Nanjing Road, one of the busiest commercial streets in the world, alongside Fifth Avenue and Oxford Street. The tour includes the water town of Zhujiajiao, an authentic experience of traditional Chinese architecture.
