Corvin Castle and Prislop Monastery Tour 2026
Discover Corvin Castle, Prislop Monastery and Zoe's Gardens on a 2-day tour. Accommodation, dinner and breakfast included, at 629 RON/person. Departures from Bucharest in 2026.
We invite you to discover the most impressive treasures of Transylvania and Gorj on a 2-day tour, departing from Bucharest. You will visit Corvin Castle, one of the most spectacular medieval castles in Europe, Prislop Monastery with the tomb of Father Arsenie Boca, Zoe's Gardens – a corner of Italy in the heart of Romania – and the Brâncuși monumental ensemble in Târgu Jiu. This tour is ideal for those who wish to combine spirituality, history and natural beauty in a single getaway. Accommodation at a 3* hotel in Hunedoara, dinner and breakfast are included in the price, so you can enjoy a complete and relaxing experience.
What we visit
On the first day, we depart at 06:00 from Piața Victoriei, Bucharest, with complimentary boarding in Pitești. The first stop is at Master potter Paloși's ceramics workshop in Horezu, where you will see how ceramic vessels are made and hand-decorated with traditional motifs. Did you know that Horezu ceramics and the pottery craft of the area became universal heritage values through their inscription, in 2012, on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list?
We continue to Târgu Jiu, where we admire the monumental ensemble created by Constantin Brâncuși: the Endless Column, the Gate of the Kiss and the Table of Silence. Did you know that the Endless Column was inaugurated on 27 October 1938, stands 29.35 metres high and is composed of 16 superimposed octahedral modules? We then cross the Jiu Gorge, a spectacular canyon area carved by the Jiu river, offering impressive views of steep cliffs and rich vegetation. Did you know that the gorge stretches for about 33 km, and the Bumbești-Livezeni railway has 39 tunnels and 35 bridges?
We visit Lainici Monastery, renowned for its interior frescoes and collection of old icons, picturesquely set in the middle of a coniferous forest. Did you know that the monastery was founded by the monk Nicodim from Mount Athos in the second half of the 14th century, and in the 18th century was destroyed by General Adolf Nicolaus von Buccow on the orders of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria? The next stop is at Prislop Monastery, at the tomb of Father Arsenie Boca, an important pilgrimage site for thousands of believers. Did you know that over 300,000 pilgrims come annually to Prislop Monastery? In the evening, accommodation at a 3* hotel in Hunedoara and dinner included.
On the second day, after breakfast, we visit Corvin Castle, built in Gothic style in the 15th century by Iancu de Hunedoara (John Hunyadi). This imposing castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe, with an impressive access bridge, massive towers and the Knights' Hall. We continue to Zoe's Gardens (Giardini di Zoe) in Banpotoc, a spectacular park inspired by classical Italian gardens, with broad terraces, fountains, elegant statues and an impressive variety of plants – a unique place that brings a touch of Italian elegance to the heart of Transylvania. The last stop is in Sibiu, the former European Capital of Culture, with its well-preserved historic centre: Piața Mare (Large Square), Piața Mică (Small Square), the Council Tower, the Bridge of Lies and Gothic churches. We arrive in Bucharest in the course of the evening. If you are interested in other tours in Transylvania, discover also Baniței Gorge and Zoe's Gardens or Maramureș and Horses' Waterfall.
